See reviews in more languagesI really like the Metro Cafe, even though it's crowded almost every time of the day and week - but this only speaks for the cafe. Service is exceptional, prices moderate for the location and the coffee delicious. Especially in spring and summer you may have to fight for a place on one of the outside tables, but this is all part of the see-and-be-seen-atmosphere of South William Street.

The Metro cafe is the coffee king of cafes in Dublin. it boasts an ecclectic mix of young, old, tourists and locals; some famous some not so famous.
The atmosphere is casual and relaxed twisted with a good urbane vibe and its loyality with the locals simply tribal.
The Metro is the Brainchild of Niall and Eileen Kavanagh who have built this little mighty empire from scratch when they returned from New York over a decade ago bringing with them that Big Apple essence.
Their passion for good coffee is obvious and the food is daily fresh, but what makes this the king of Dublin coffee society is the the warm welcoming atmosphere of the staff and locals.

I come here for my recession friendly fix - pancakes with butter and syrup all for 3 euro or thereabouts. For a treat on a miserable evening try the mushrooms on toast.
The best chai lattes in Dublin and the staff are lovely.

The Metro Cafe has become an institution for most people in Dublin. Naturally it attracts the tourists from its large street presence on vibrant South William street, however it is the locals that make this place. On any given day you can see the people that have been coming here everyday since its conception, which is surely a tribute to their success.
The buskers, the writers, the goths, the business men, and other hospitality works all happily side by side.
The menu is fresh and reasonably priced, with daily specials. Bakery goods are fresh each day, and the breakfast special is by far the most popular. The coffee, which I’m fussy about, is perfect, and if for any reason your not happy the staff will replace it without issue.
If you can catch a sunny break and an outside table I guarantee you will be loathe to move on!
