See reviews in more languagesIf I was to pick between the Guinness tour and the Jameson tour I would pick Jameson.
I have done it twice with friends of mine and I'd have not trouble going back.
A bit expensive but a well ran show. Buy the ticket, wait for your specific tour to start and first is the video explaining the story of Mr Jameson. Nicely produced.
Then the walking tour starts and this is where the Jameson tour wins for me. Very intimate and the guides are very good.
Goes through the complete distillation process and explains the difference between triple distilled, barrels for storage and itself and scotch.
End of tour ends with the guide picking some people for a tasting session on educating your palette to the different tastes of different whiskeys.
I got picked on both (must be the face or height!).
Because of this I stopped drinking the waaay to sweet JD!
Free drink (if you're old enough) with a coke, cranberry juice (my vote) or lemonade if you don't get picked and if you do you get your drink after the sampling.
Great gift shop with everything Jameson in it.
Highly recommended.
Managed to spend about an hour here stepping off the city tourbus.
The actual distillery tour was quite expensive, but there was enough free thing that you could have a look at, and plenty of sampling :)
Very interesting to have a look at, and the architecture is amazing. There is lots for sale as expected, including whisky costing hundreds of thousands of euros! Crazy!

Jamesons Distillery, the moment you walk in you notice that smell, the smell of Barley.
The countdown to the next tour grates on your ears after hearing it a few times but you can block that out.
You first are shown a video of how Jameson's came about, very interesting tells you the story behind Jameson's. The Tour was good, The staff are really enthusiastic and really enjoy what they do.
They have made the tour as interesting as possible, with some quirky facts you will always remember when that vital quiz comes up on the television.
The Jameson taste testing is always good for a laugh if you can get on a panel, but make sure you know your jameson from your jack daniels otherwise you wont get your official jameson taster certificate.
The Jameson restaurant is excellent, staff are happy to help if there is something you don't want etc... they will exchange with no quibble or arguments. The food was hot, and huge portions too. and very nicely priced. all round a very nice restaurant to eat in .
The giftshop is quite small and has limited stock, although if you were like us you only wanted a bottle of the exclusive distillery jameson anyway!

Mmmm. I’m a huge fan of Jamesons, so I had to finally go on this tour, pricey at € 13.50! However things started to niggle me the minute the OTT countdown to next tour beginning finished, and the sizable group I was a part of were ushered through into a small cinema.
They were mean allowing only 5 people who’ve won a simple quiz after the Jamesons film had been shown to do a whiskey sampling, which is itself a bit of a non-event anyway. Anyone whose looked at a glass of Jamesons, (even for a short a time as I usually do before downing it), could have told from the 20feet distance I was from the tiny plastic glasses, the paler coloured Jamesons from a redder Tesco Scotch & a more gingery looking bourbon!
You do get a free glass of Jamesons at the end, but if I tell you that I let them convince me to put cranberry juice in with the old Uisce Beatha, you’ll know just how mixed up of mixed feelings I was about this place!
The young chap doing the tour was personable but it was far too regimented for my wild whiskey discerning taste!
I loved the smell of the barley, pocketing a handful as we passed the barrel, and I did as I was told and rubbed the millstone for luck. I was anyway a thorough convert to the cause of Irish whiskey over the version that the Scots adapted for themselves after the Irish showed them the whiskey-way. Yes it’s cleaner & smoother and without the noticeable smokyness of Scotch as well as the 'e’ in whiskey. Not that that puts me off an occasional glass of White Horse!
I like a drop of Tullamore Dew or the Blackbush a little better maybe, sorry John Jameson, but if we’d all been given the chance of sampling about six different Irish whiskeys now that would have been good.
Now once we were finished I did sit in a very comfy armchair in the Jamesons lobby bar and have 2 or 3 of the nicest Irish coffees, that a lovely girl from Lithuania had lovingly made, so there, there, it wasn’t that bad after all!

I’m not a big whisky drinker but my Dad is, so off we went. Even though Dad thought it was all over too soon, the brevity of the tour suited me down to the ground as I wasn’t particularly fascinated by the distilling process. All credit to our guide though, who tried to get me out of my shell by asking what my favourite tipple is (he didn’t seem to mind when I said vodka). The one thing both Dad and I enjoyed was the whisky tasting at the end. Hey, I know I said I wasn’t a big whisky drinker, but I’m never one to turn down a free sample!

I’ve never been to a distillery before so I really enjoyed this tour (I think it was the best tour I did in Dublin - and that includes the Guinness one ). You learn about the company and about the distilling process - distilled 3 times to get that lovely smooth whiskey.
I was a confirmed Jack Daniels drinker until my visit here, and after the taste test ( Johnny Walker black label , Jack Daniels and Jamesons) there is no comparison - Jamesons is a clear winner every time .
TIP - go on the bus tour and get a voucher off the tour entry .

Quite an informative guide but the tour does not take long and it felt as tho we were being rushed through.

The Old Jameson Distillery tour is fairly short and briefly provides the history of this brand of Irish whisky. If you have previously been to the Guinness Storehouse, don’t expect such a lavish affair.
The tour groups are relatively small and are guided by excellent staff members who really do make what could be a dry subject quite interesting. After hearing about the how distilling process and the history of this brand, you finally get to taste a sample of the whisky in a 'taste test’. The tour is really enjoyable is recommended.

During my travels around Europe, I visited several breweries/distilleries, and the Old Jameson Distillery was one of the most interesting ones. The tour begins with a video about the “spirit of Ireland,” which made me, as an American, feel guilty because the American prohibition nearly destroyed the company. Throughout the tour, the entire process of making Jameson whiskey is demonstrated. At the end of the tour, there is a whiskey taste test. After the tour and taste test, I felt like I was an Irish whiskey expert. The gift shop has many nice gift sets and memorbilia.

did the tour earlier this year & thoroughly enjoyed it
guide was well informed & entertaining
there’s a nice cafe in the entrance, not selling beer though (it is a whisky distillery, i guess)
at the end of the tour everyone is given a small glass to taste
it’s then a small number from each group are chosen to do a taste test of six key whisky brands/types & they have to score each one in front of everyone watching
even though i wasn’t one of those chosen, i still enjoyed the tour

I feel real bad saying this but its not worth it at all : ( I wanted to like this place because I love Jameson its my whiskey of choice. I know they fixed this place up and it seems like its probably the same people who did up the Guinness brewery because of the similar look. I wasnt impressed. Put it this way I didnt even bother paying the 12.50 EURO for the tour. I bought a souvenir in the gift shop then left.
But I will say this, from what i’ve heard from friends, if you are down in Cork go to The Old Distillery in Midleton. Its more old and true as suppose to being built up.
