    Lantern Chinese Restaurant - Ballina

mykindathing wrote on 1 February 2009

The Lantern does incredibly mouthwatering chinese food, at a very reasonable price. The chicken dry hot and spicy is scrumptious, and the duck is very tasty. They have a car park at the side of the restaurant where you can grab your takeaways easily. This place is well known for a good reason and has a great reputation, so try the chinese food here and you won’t go anywhere else.

    Caffola's - Ballina

mykindathing wrote on 1 February 2009

Caffola’s is a restaurant in the centre of Ballina that also has a takeaway next door. It is very family friendly, with shiny tables and special menus to suit all the family. The meals are good value for money, but the takeaways are what cafolla’s is famous for, especially the chips, which are just incredible. Theres nowhere better in Ballina to pick up your takeaways.

    Lidl - Ballina

mykindathing wrote on 1 February 2009

Lidl is everyone’s favourite supermarket. It has amazingly good quality food, at very low prices. This supermarket has its own free carpark in front, and is very accessible. It is always busy with people taking advantage of the great offers. The fresh fruit and veg can’t be beaten on price and taste, and the chocolate is also a big seller. Avoid the traffic in the centre of town and head to lidl to pick up what you need, and at half the cost.

    60 Harcourt Street, 2 Dublin

    dtwo - Dublin

This club is really impressive in appearance, as it is very classy, with full length mirrors and lights everywhere. It has two floors; downstairs is the dancefloor and a very packed bar, while upstairs there is the quieter crowd, and the large smoking area. The club runs drinks promotions, so you don’t have to spend a fortune, and the strawberry daiquiris are delicious. This place was pumping, even on a wednesday night, and the atmosphere was electric, so i would definitely come here again.

    Heatons - Ballina

mykindathing wrote on 1 February 2009

This Heatons branch is huge, with 3 floors and is quite spacious. The ground floor has general fashion, the second is homeware and the top is sportswear. The sports section is definitely worth a look, as it has branded sports clothes and trainers at extremely low prices. The homewear section has some great finds but I generally avoid the clothes, as the styles are quite outdated. Heatons essentially provides great value for money, but it appeals more to the older shoppers than the younger, aside from the sports section which is a hit with everyone.

    Awear - Dublin

mykindathing wrote on 1 February 2009

Awear has a funky range of jewellery, accessories, clothes and bags. It has everything you need to make a great outfit for a formal/casual night out. I especially love the earrings, which look expensive, but don’t cost too much. In general, awear has reasonable prices, though the dresses are a little on the steep side. This staff in this store are helpful and friendly. A very popular irish chain, with new collections all the time to catch your eye.

    Dundrum Main Street, Dublin

    Spar - Dublin

mykindathing wrote on 1 February 2009

This is a handy place to get any essentials out of hours. It is located right in the middle of Dundrum, 5 mins from the town centre. It is small, but has everything and it opens very late. It is pricey, but you pay for convenience more than anything else.

    Stillorgan Library - Blackrock

mykindathing wrote on 1 February 2009

Located in a cul de sac, 5 mins from the stillorgan shopping centre, this library is away from all the noise of the traffic and shoppers. It is a pleasant library with a friendly, helpful staff and a good collection of books. There are two sections- adults and children which are seperated by the main desk. There are also computers for general use in the childrens section. I really like this library as it is small and peaceful, and the idea of seperating the childrens and adults books has alot to be said for it.

    The Broken Jug - Ballina

mykindathing wrote on 1 February 2009

This pub is very popular, especially among the twenties crowd in Ballina. Inside, it is slightly old fashioned but very large. It gets very busy at weekends when all the young crowd come, and has a really lively, upbeat atmosphere. It also serves really decent meals during the day and the prices are good. A great pub to start off a night out.

The Coffee Vine Cafe - Ballina

mykindathing wrote on 1 February 2009

This is one of Ballina’s best cafés. It is small and cosy, and is a favourite of everyone from teenagers to business persons. The café serves soup, sandwiches, hot drinks, desserts, meals and smoothies. The cakes here are amazing. Prices vary, but are not above average. The staff are friendly and welcoming. This is a brilliant place to come and have a chat with an old friend.
