    Des Kelly Interiors - Dublin

Recently ordered a new leather couch here.
Staff excellent and pleasant to deal with.
The couch we spotted was in a different colour but they rang all their branches for us, to see if the one we wanted was available. As it wasn't in stock they ordered it straight away from the supplier and it arrived in due course.
they don't stock luxury items however Des kelly's is a great place to shop for furniture on a budget. Some great bargains to be had from time to time.
they also stock carpets and wooden floors.

    TK Maxx - Dublin

Not my favourite branch of T.K Max.
As others have said it is very tight for space and it's best to visit when it opens in the morning.
I have also found that I don't find the "special objects" that I used to come across 9/10 years ago. However it pays to persevere and i very much doubt you will end up leaving this shop without something "in the bag" :-)

If you are a big T.K Max fan you should most certainly get out to Blanchardstown and visit their bigger and brighter branch there!

    Next - Dublin

DublinViking wrote on 26 December 2009

My husband had a dreadful experience some time ago whilst browsing for a coat in this store!
As he browsed in the mens clothes section, he was approached by a non-national security guard who had the audacity to ask him "what was he looking for in the store" and then proceeded to follow him around the store!!!!!
My husband who had gone to the Liffey Valley to look for a coat was so shocked and upset that he then walked out of the store and didnt bother doing any more shopping in Liffey Valley but got in his car and drove home.

I pleaded with him to take this up with a manager but he declined to do so as he does not like confrontation.
My message is to any manager who may be reading this is to bloody train your security guards properly. We will never shop in this store again but will spend our money in a store that appreciates and does not hassle innocent and upstanding and loyal customers!!!

    Yankee's - Galway

DublinViking wrote on 26 October 2009 (updated on 28 October 2009)

After a visit to the U.S in the early 90's I was introduced to the beautiful fragrances of Yankee Candles. It was impossible to find them in Ireland back then but how things have changed in recent years and I no longer have to pack my case with the jars when I visit the U.S.

I recently had the chance to visit Yankee's on Lower Abbey gate St in Galway. It's a pretty decent sized store packed with all your favourite Yankee candles along with a pretty good selection of shades and other Yankee accessories. I managed to pick myself up a new edition Christmas Shade for €14 instead of the top price of €21, which I think is a little expensive anyhow.
It's well worth checking out if you are stuck for a gift for that special someone or like me you are just a huge Yankee Candle fan!

    Ikea - Dublin

DublinViking wrote on 9 September 2009

Finally I got to savour the delights of the newly opened Ikea in Dublin.
It is located in the suburb of Ballymun and easily assessible from the M50 or by Dublin Bus.
I actually traveled out there by bus.
the bus number is the 13/13a which are very regular and can be picked up on O’Connell St near the Dublin Bus Offices (Parnell St end).
The bus route terminates at Ikea.
Well what can I say about Ikea, brilliantly laid out, stunning showrooms. The store is bright and spacious and very family friendly.
Plenty of carparking and it was buzzing even after only a few weeks of been opened.
Such a shame that Athlone missed out on having this store located there. I can’t believe the local business community kicked up about it!!!!

    Café Seven - Dublin

DublinViking wrote on 24 August 2009 (updated on 1 September 2009)

Popped in to Café Seven for the first time since it opened 3 months ago! It was just before 7pm and we only wanted coffee before getting our bus home from town.
A very nice gentleman, who I took to be the proprietor welcomed us and saw us to our seats. Turned out they were due to close shortly but he said it was no problem serving us and to take our time….so many places I know would have just turfed us out as they totted up their cash for the evening!
Anyhow we ended up getting 2 pots of tea, toasted sandwiches for me and a toasted club sandwich for himself, which came with a very tasty side salad. It is also a wine bar and they open till 10.30 pm on Thursday,Friday and Saturdays. It’s a nice cozy place to meet friends for coffee and a chat and they also have some pavement tables too (for the smokers and peoplewatchers!)
    We will be back :-)

    A-Z Hire LTD - Dublin

DublinViking wrote on 10 August 2009

Had my first encounter with having to hire a piece of garden equipment from A-Z Hire last week.
I rang them up for some details, prices etc and got an absolute gentleman on the phone, who took the time to answer my questions. It was just lovely to ring up a business and not get somebody “grunting” down the phone , which sadly is all too common in Dublin these days!
Anyhow A-Z Hire is situated just of Walkinstown Ave and the Naas Rd. There is plenty of carparking outside. The guys inside are a joy to deal with, being extremely professional and ya can still have a bit of craic with them.
After filling out our form and paying for the equipment, we drove around to the yard to be greeted by 2 young fellows who guided us through how to operate the machine and etc. Two real salt of the earth young lads who know their stuff and liked to have a banter with the customers too.
All in all A-Z were great to deal with, very professional. I will give them more business and have no hesitation recommending them!

    Rapid Shoe Repairs,D1 - Dublin

DublinViking wrote on 8 June 2009

I have gone here several times to get my shoes heeled. The man who runs the place is a real salt of the earth Dublin man who makes you feel real at home when you go into his shop. His son also helps out with the business. He loves to have a chat and there are high stools in the small shop if you wish to wait whilst the job is done!
They also cut keys whilst you wait.
It is just on Sackville Place which runs between O,Connell St and Marlborough St.

    La Boulangerie, Inchicore - Dublin

DublinViking wrote on 7 June 2009

Great little local bakery on Bulfin Rd (10 minutes walk from Inchicore Village).La Boulangerie has a few other outlets scattered throughout the South City. The most well know one is on Camden St!
They have some delicious cakes and breads including apple tarts, rhubarb tarts, vanilla squares, choclate eclair’s and some absolutely mouth-watering french sponge cakes. Normally €2.50 each but you can get 4 for €6.
They also take orders for birthday Cakes etc. La Boulangerie has a Cafe next door to the bakery.
A great place to pop into on a Friday for that special treat
